Lesson 2. Deep Dive Origin Of The Search.

What Happened? We all look for our SIGNIFICANCE ?

God created everything perfect. Man and woman lived in a perfect world where there was no sin, shame, fear, suffering, or death. Adam and Eve enjoyed intimate fellowship with God and found their security, significance, and purpose in Him. They were created in God’s image to reflect His glory and to rule over His creation according to His will.

Adam and Eve were perfect in spirit, mind, and body. Their worth was based on God’s declaration, not on their performance. However, Satan, also called Lucifer, came to deceive them. In Genesis 3:6, the serpent tempted Eve by convincing her that the forbidden fruit was “desirable for gaining wisdom.” He suggested that God was withholding something good from them and implied that they could become like God themselves.

Instead of trusting God, Adam and Eve chose independence from Him. They decided to determine good and evil for themselves. In essence, they chose to become their own gods. This act of rebellion brought sin into the world and shattered their relationship with God.

The effects were devastating. They immediately experienced shame, fear, guilt, and spiritual death. They hid from God instead of enjoying fellowship with Him. They lost the security and significance they had found in His presence and began searching for worth and meaning apart from Him.

Because God is Holy and Sin separates people from Him, blood had to be shed. God killed an animal and made garments of skin to cover Adam and Eve’s nakedness in the garden.(Genesis 3:21). This was the first shedding of blood in Scripture and pointed forward to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ, whose blood would be shed to pay for the sins of the world. This came true.

From that moment on, mankind began searching for significance through performance, achievements, possessions, and the approval of others. Yet God’s plan of redemption was already in motion. Through Jesus Christ, God would restore what was lost in the Garden and offer mankind forgiveness, reconciliation, and a new identity in Him. A love never ending.

Truth: Man was created to find his significance in God. Sin caused man to seek significance apart from God.

Jesus came to restore us to the relationship and purpose for which we were originally created.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” — Romans 6:23

“Then the LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.” — Genesis 3:21

This connects directly to the theme of The Search for Significance: after the Fall, humanity lost its sense of security and significance in God and began looking for it everywhere else. Only through Christ can that lost significance be fully restored.

Lesson 2: The Origin of the Search

The Fall of Man: How Sin Has Affected Our Relationship with God

This lesson will help you understand God's purpose in creating mankind and His original design for a relationship with us. We will examine how man's rebellion against God brought sin into the world, resulting in separation from God and the loss of the purpose for which humanity was created. As we study the Fall of Man, we will see how sin has affected every aspect of our relationship with God and discover God's plan to restore what was lost through His love, grace, and redemption.

The Creation of Man

Read Genesis 1:25–31

1. What do you think it means for man to bear God’s image?

2. What two responsibilities did God give to Adam?

3. What was God’s evaluation of creation before and after He created Adam?

4. Was God’s evaluation of Adam based on Adam’s performance or on Fall of Man?

Read Genesis 3:1-10

1. How did Satan tempt Eve?

2. Why do you think Eve was vulnerable to temptation?

3. Where were Adam and Eve when they ate the fruit, and what does this tell us about their choice to disobey God?

4. What happened immediately after Adam and Eve sinned? declaration? Explain your answer.

Truth: When God finished His creation, including man, He declared it “very good” (Genesis 1:31). Adam’s value and worth were not based on his performance, accomplishments, or the opinions of others. His worth was established by God Himself because he was created in God’s image. In the same way, our value is ultimately determined by what God says about us, not by our performance or the approval of others. He loved Us!

"But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear."

According to this verse, how has sin affected man's relationship with God?

8. What do Adam and Eve's actions teach us about the consequences of choosing our own way instead of God's way?

Truth:

When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, sin entered the world and brought spiritual separation from Him. The fellowship they once enjoyed with God was broken, and mankind's search for significance became distorted. Instead of finding identity, worth, and purpose in God, humanity began looking for them through performance, possessions, and the approval of others. Yet even in the midst of man's rebellion, God began revealing His plan of redemption through Jesus Christ, who came to restore our relationship with Him.

Reflection

How do these passages help you understand the seriousness of sin and humanity's need for a Savior?

Truth:

The Bible teaches that sin is not merely a mistake but a condition that enslaves mankind and separates us from God. Left to ourselves, we stand guilty before a Holy and prefect God . Yet God's love is demonstrated in that He provided a way of salvation through Jesus Christ. Through His death and resurrection, we can receive forgiveness, freedom from the power of sin, and eternal life with God.

God's Provision for Man's Sin

Read Romans 3:24-26

*"Yet God, in His grace, freely makes us right in His sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed His Although sin separated mankind from God, He provided a way for us to be restored to a right relationship with Him through Jesus Christ.

As Romans 3:24-26 teaches, we are justified by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ and His work on the cross. Jesus took our place and suffered the punishment for our sins, even though He was without sin and we did not deserve His mercy.

Through His substitutionary death and resurrection, He paid the penalty for our sins and offers us forgiveness, new life, and reconciliation with God.

By placing our trust in Jesus and receiving Him as Lord and Savior, we can begin a personal relationship with God. He gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide, comfort, teach, and strengthen us as we walk with Him each day.

Prayer of Salvation

Lord Jesus, I need You. I ask You to be my Savior and Lord. I accept Your death on the cross as the complete payment for my sins. Thank You for forgiving me and giving me new life.

Please forgive me for my trespasses and sins. I repent and turn away from them, and I place my trust in You alone. Help me to grow in my understanding of Your love, grace, and power. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and guide me each day so that my life may honor and glorify You.

Thank You for Your gift of eternal life and for making me Your child. In Your Holy name. Amen
