The Deadly Myth That God Is In Control
Life is short and one of my personal convictions is to avoid unnecessary contention. I strongly believe we must pick our battles carefully and not waste time on petty arguments or be distracted by things that do not lead people closer to Jesus.
Everyone has a right to their own opinion. I acknowledge and celebrate this.
Others do not have to believe as I believe to have or feel my complete love, acceptance and respect.
I do however feel that the way people look at GOD determines the condition of their hearts and as a result affects how they relate to God and how they treat others.
This is something that I feel is worth addressing with others because it will color every relationship.
We will “act” like our “Father.” This is why I would like to address what I see is a warped view of the lord. (GOD)
I do not pretend to have all the answers but do think a gentler view of GOD will help us fall madly in love with Him and keep us from bitterness,( which is in essence), blaming Him.
When I went to the Blue Letter Bible and typed in “God is in control,” it came up with no matches in the King James. The New King James Version had the matches “God” “in” and “control” but it led to the verse in Acts 5:4 “
"While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God." This has nothing to do with what I am looking for so I went on. When I got to the New Living Translation, there was a verse that contained “God” “is” and “control.”
This is the verse: 1 John 5:19 NLT, “We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one.”
Wow! What do you think about that? What does King James have to say? “[And] we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.” OK, so King James does not say God is in control. In fact, it seems to be saying the opposite.
It says that the world is under the control of the evil one. Other versions of this passage support this. The New King James Version says, “We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.” How about our beloved New International Version? “We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.”
Well, that verse answers my question about who is in control pretty clearly. But good students of the Bible need to see this supported throughout the Bible to really embrace it so I think that for those who find this alarming I need to present more evidence.
I will be exploring this idea piece by piece over time.
Blessings to All.
